MLM Business | P & P’s

When you signed up for your MLM business, did you read your companies P & P’s, or Policies and Procedures? I know I didn’t with my first company and I bet you didn’t either. You know what, 90% of distributors never read them before signing up. After all, you’re a trusting person, the company has to protect themselves and you’re thinking I’m sure there’s nothing in there that would hurt me. Unfortunately you could be very wrong.

P & P’s are CONTRACTS!

Yup, you read that right, legal, binding contracts. Meaning if you do something which breaks that contract than they can enforce what’s in that contract, either take your check for a month or even worse, terminate you. Oh, I can hear you right now…I didn’t sign anything, I joined over the internet. Well, smarty pants, did you check that little box saying you agreed to the Policies and Procedures or Terms and Conditions? Of course you did other wise you wouldn’t have been “allowed” to join. Consider yourself legally and literally bound and gagged!

P & P’s Why Should I Care?

Let me ask you a question, who is building this company? Do you want to put all of your blood, sweat and tears into building an organization only to have it ripped out from under you? If that’s OK with you then don’t read the P & P’s, because that is the way these contracts are being written now. MLM has gone big time and I mean big time corporate, big time moola. When you start getting P & P’s 20, 30, 40 + pages long, you know lawyers are writing them. Lawyers who were hired to protect the company, lawyers who are protecting their client, not you.

I was reading a P & P for someone the other day and it states “If the distributor disagrees with the P&P, the distributor should resign.” How do you like them apples? There are many “gotchas” in that company’s P & P and obviously they’ve had distributors complaining. Guess they feel their distributors are a dime a dozen. Many of these “corporate MLM’s” have no regard for the guy/gal in the field building, we are totally dispensable. The stories I’ve heard of people building it, then being let go, or having their checks taken away for the month because they either “violated their Policy & Procedures” or better yet someone in their downline did are sickening. In most of these P&P’s there is so much double and triple talk it’s ridiculous, you can’t even do business without violating something in them.

P & P’s CYA

You know the old saying “Cover your ______.” If the companies have their lawyers writing all of this stuff to protect them, the least you can do for yourself is read what’s in them. I know, I know its worse then reading Beowulf. The stuff in there is enough to make you eyes cross and your head spin like Linda Blair in The Exorcist. But they do that on purpose. My suggestion is to start at the back and read towards the front. They put the questionable stuff in the back and middle because no one ever gets that far when they start from the front. Also, look for words like ongoing training, 30 day termination, termination without cause, etc. Some even have a clause where if your family member violates anything in the P&P’s you can be terminated!!!

Are you building this to retire or are you planning on working this forever? If your P & P has anything about ongoing training, ongoing support, regular, continued performance, etc. guess what you’ll be doing this for the rest of your life if you want to keep you check. And when you pass away your kids will be doing it if they want to keep the money. Please, if nothing else, do yourself a favor and read your P & P’s before you get in too deep and if you’re already in pretty deep and need some help I can do that too.
