MLM Success | Customers are Important!
One important fact that many MLM companies and uplines have gotten away from is customers are important.
Would you sell this?
Ask yourself this question. Would you use your cable TV service if you also had to sell it? Probably not. Yet this is exactly what happens in our business. We are looking strictly for Business Builders and totally ignoring the customer side.
It is important to realize that most people do not want to sell. This also means share. Yes, people do it everyday and don't get paid to do it. If that's OK with them then let them be, but don't overlook them as a potential customer.
An island story
A few years ago I was living on the island of Guam. While I was there I decided to make a little extra money by selling Avon to the people I knew. I didn't recruit anyone into my business, nor was I interested in doing that. My focus was exclusively on selling the products that Avon offered.
Just by selling to a customer base that I developed over a period of 8 months, I was able to make about $800 a month. Not bad for "just selling." At that time I had no idea about the concept of network marketing and I'm not even sure it was very encouraged at that time in Avon.
We were transferred after that, and I passed my business onto a friend of mine, but I know there were a few people in my customer base that would have gladly sold Avon, thus joining me in business if I had asked them.
Let's hear it for the customer!
By developing relationships with my customer base and discovered who really loved the products. Knowing what I know now about Network Marketing I believe this is an avenue that is often overlooked as being either "old fashioned" or "too slow."
What I am suggesting is to add this marketing technique into developing your business. In order to do that though, a few things have to be in place. I'll write about those things next time!
Just remember in the mean time. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. To achieve MLM success, customers are important to at healthy, growing MLM business.

MLM Training | Use Questions to Build Strong Relationships
To achieve MLM success you must become skillful at using questions to build strong relationships. This is the first step towards building a strong foundation. It is very important for your prospect to feel that you care about them and their situation. With your prospect feeling that empathy from you trust will begin to develop. The ability to build the trust factor will exponentially grow your business.
Why questions?
The first reason to use questions to start building strong relationships is perhaps the most important. It keeps the focus off you and your product or business and on your prospect where it belongs. The more you talk about someone else, the less they will feel like you’re trying to “sell” them. You can also gather valuable information this way. Things they probably wouldn’t tell you if they didn’t trust and like you.
By using questions to build relationships you will find that others will feel you’re a great conversationalist! By letting them do all the talking, suddenly you become the smartest person on the planet, and you didn’t say a word. You’ve probably heard of the saying, “God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason, use your ears not your mouth!” You could not find a greater truth for building strong relationships!
Types of questions
When thinking about the types of questions to ask, think about yourself! How do you feel if someone you don’t know starts asking questions you feel are too personal? Asking too personal a question to begin with will have your prospect putting up walls that will take a while to tear down. The best questions to start with are ones that are “outside” of the person. That’s why so many people talk about the weather. It’s a comfortable way of starting a conversation that is non-intrusive.
Listen!
Again, this is the most important step. Have you ever answered a question then a few minutes later had the same person ask you the same question? How did that make you feel? I know I get pretty angry! I feel as though they don’t care about what I’m saying. I’m sure you feel the same.
Active listening will lead you to the next right question, that’s key. The person you’re speaking with will know that you are listening because you’re asking appropriate follow up questions.
Making an affirming statement will also have the same effect. Have you ever been speaking to someone, made a statement, and the other person agreed? That simple affirming statement probably led you to continue on and made you feel understood. That mutual understanding also creates a common bond.
The skill of asking questions, then actively listening to keep the conversation going, is a must for any successful networker. It builds a bridge of trust and friendship. A bridge that is missing for many people in our world and business today. A successful networker knows how to build that bridge, sometimes just from scraps of wood, into a trusting, strong relationship by the use of questions.

Network Marketing Success | Why, Your Products or Your Life?
One important element to network marketing success is knowing your “why”. A good why will see you through the tough times. You’ll have a vision of what your success will look like. You’ll be able to see, feel and touch it in your mind. You’ll know why you are doing this thing we call network marketing.
The most important question
This first question to ask yourself is “Why am I doing this?” What do I want to create for my or my family’s future? What am I willing to do to attain that picture? What am I not willing to do to get there? Where do I see myself within 5 years? What does that feel like? I recommend releasing the barriers of your mind and allowing yourself to dream a bit, see what you come up with.
When you have a Why that is the picture of your success, no one else’s, then ask yourself if you’re in the right company to accomplish that dream.
Is your product your Why?
I speak to many people who are very clear on their why, but greatly inhibit their network marketing success because of the company they’ve chosen. A typical affiliate will fall in love with a product or products and think “this is something I can sell.”
The company they have chosen may be a bad fit for their personality type, the compensation plan may be totally wrong for them, or there might not be marketing system in place other than talking to you family and friends. It can also be a combination of these and other factors.
Is your life your Why?
I spoke to a wonderful gentleman the other day. As we were speaking he shared with me his why. He had a family and his dream was to be at home with his children. He wanted to be the Dad that was the coach of his children’s teams. This Dad wanted to volunteer at school and be there for his children’s school plays and show. His why truly warmed my heart. He is a great man with an awesome why.
A Product Why.
This man was struggling with his business and wanted to know what he could do to achieve the goals of his why. This gentleman loved his company’s product. He believed, because it was such an awesome product, he should be able to make money, sponsor people into his business and achieve network marketing success with that product.
I agreed with him, his product was great, but it was overpriced. He agreed. Because of the price the company he represented depended mostly on affiliates to buy the product thus making it a recruit, recruit, recruit type of mentality. That approach is fine if you’re a hard driving type-A, red personality, but he isn’t. That is another reason he is struggling. He also agreed. Another reason was his compensation plan. He would have to have a couple thousand of people on his team to make any kind of substantial money. Also hard for a non-red to do. His company’s marketing plan was set up to mainly talk to family, friends and referrals, about his products and business, another difficulty for non-reds. He agreed with that also.
Marry your life not your product!
By the end of our conversation, he had a much better understanding why he was not achieving success with his product and company. I asked him if he was married to his product, then we went back to revisit his why. He remembered the reason he got into network marketing was for financial freedom and the ability to live life on his own terms. Although he loved his product chances were good that his present company wouldn’t help him achieve his ultimate why, his dream.
It’s not fun when you realize, believe me, I understand. But if you want network marketing success, look at your why. Do you want success for your product or do you want success for your life? When you get clear on this, the answers will come.

MLM Success | Goal Setting
I’m often asked “How important is goal setting in MLM success?” You may be surprised by my answer. The standard answer is goal setting is one of the most important things you must do to have MLM success. I don’t totally disagree. I agree that it is important to know where you want to go and to have a plan on getting there. My problem comes with the rigidity that some people have towards their goals and how it can stifle their MLM success.
Frozen Solid
I’ll use myself as an example, I don’t set any hard, fast goals, per say. I’ve always had a problem with that little voice in the back of my head saying if you don’t reach your goal you’re a failure. Talk about pressure! When I used to set the “typical goal”, i.e. I will be at this position by a certain date, I will have this much money in my bank account by that certain date, I would practically freeze. I would not be able to do anything. I was afraid of failure. Not a good way to attain MLM success!
What’s a non goal setter to do?
Now what I find helpful is to set a daily plan of activity. For example, in order to have success in MLM you must have a continuous flow of people to talk to. I now to focus on the activity of keeping the pipeline full and letting the outcome of people joining me in my business take care of itself.
Focus on the task at hand
I am a task master, give me a job to do and consider it done. Now I focus on the activity. I focus on the success of having accomplished that task. I also know that by accomplishing easy to do, proactive tasks my goals are moving toward me. Much less pressure and stress involved with that way of thinking! I can do a little something everyday, be successful at that, and feel good about what I am accomplishing.
Goal Setting success
If you’re like me and goals tend to stress you out making you feel like a failure. Try to focus on the daily activities you need to accomplish in order for you to attain you ultimate goal. Break it down into little daily doable chunks, and then focus on accomplishing those tasks. Let yourself feel successful in accomplishing the small things. If you stay in activity and keep yourself focused on the small stuff you will see your small successes grow into big ones. That’s how I’ve achieved MLM success through goal setting.

Network Marketing Success-It’s not a Sales Job!
When I first entered Network Marketing I was told in order to be successful you must sell, sell, and sell. I recently received an email “MLM tip of the day” which said:
"Don't let anyone kid you. Network marketing is a selling game and the best way to play the game is to have a good product or business presentation."
I read that and it made me cringe. How many of you reading this like to sell or be sold? My guess is you’re not raising your hand! No one likes it. Yet we get into this business of Network Marketing and we’re told that’s what we must do to be successful. No wonder the attrition rate in our business is so high, close to 97%! No wonder the phone feels like a million pounds! No wonder we feel stressed out approaching our friends and family! It’s because of crazy stuff like this. Then we start to feel like a failure because “we weren’t cut out to be in sales” and we figure that MLM only works for the lucky few who can sell, sell, sell.
Build Relationships and the Sales will follow
Network Marketing is not about selling. It’s about building relationships and focusing on other people. Helping them get what they want, not about selling them your product or selling them on joining your business. Focus on the other person. Find out what they want to accomplish then help them get what they want, that’s how you find success. Don’t sell them. It needs to be win/win not sell/sell.
Try to slow down. Instead of focusing on what you should say next, just listen to the other person and hear what they have to say. It will change the way you approach people and lower your stress level. People will sense that you care about them and want to help them reach their dreams and desires. When you take the focus off yourself and put it onto the other person you will be amazed at how relaxed and open they become.
Do yourself and your business a favor. Don’t follow the advice of all the so called MLM gurus! Don’t sell!!! Instead build a relationship with your prospect, it may take a little longer, but you’ll have a life long business partner or product buyer and that will be worth way more money to you in the long run! So, remember to have massive Network Marketing Success, it’s not a sales job, it’s a relationship business!
